GRAMATICOGRAFIA E SUBORDINAÇÃO DE ORAÇÕES
HORIZONTE DE RETROSPECÇÃO DAS PRIMEIRAS GRAMÁTICAS BRASILEIRAS
Resumo
RESUMO: Este artigo insere-se no campo da Historiografia da Linguística, mais especificamente na historiografia da gramaticografia, e tem como objeto o conhecimento sobre a subordinação de orações no curso da história da gramática no Ocidente. O objetivo consiste em delinear o horizonte de retrospecção das primeiras gramáticas brasileiras de língua portuguesa, com foco nos séculos 17, 18 e início do 19. Parte-se do marco inaugural da gramaticografia brasileira, representado pela publicação do Epitome da grammatica da lingua portugueza (1806), de Antonio Moraes Silva, e investigam-se tradições e obras que conformaram o clima de opinião que orientou a gramaticografia nascente no Brasil. Metodologicamente, o estudo fundamenta-se na constituição de um portal de documentação (Swiggers, 2013), que reúne bibliografia pertinente à temática. A análise evidencia o papel decisivo do pensamento de Port-Royal e, sobretudo, dos gramáticos franceses do século 18 na sistematização da subordinação de orações, bem como sua posterior apropriação na gramaticografia portuguesa oitocentista. Destaca-se, nesse percurso, a contribuição de Soares Barbosa para a consolidação de um modelo sintático baseado em funções, central para a tradição gramatical brasileira do século 19.

GRAMATICOGRAFIA E SUBORDINAÇÃO DE ORAÇÕES: HORIZONTE DE RETROSPECÇÃO DAS PRIMEIRAS GRAMÁTICAS BRASILEIRAS
ABSTRACT: This article is situated within the field of the Historiography of Linguistics, more specifically within the historiography of grammaticography, and examines the development of knowledge about clause subordination in the history of Western grammar. Its aim is to delineate the retrospective horizon of the first Brazilian grammars of Portuguese, focusing on the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and the early nineteenth century. The study takes as its starting point the publication of Epitome da grammatica da lingua portugueza (1806), by Antonio Moraes Silva, regarded as the inaugural milestone of Brazilian grammaticography, and investigates the traditions and works that shaped the climate of opinion guiding the emergence of grammar writing in Brazil. Methodologically, the research is based on the construction of a documentation portal (Swiggers, 2013), bringing together bibliographical material relevant to the topic. The analysis highlights the decisive role of Port-Royal thought and, above all, of eighteenth-century French grammarians in the systematization of subordinate clause, as well as its subsequent appropriation within nineteenth-century Portuguese grammaticography. Particular emphasis is placed on the contribution of Soares Barbosa to the consolidation of a function-based syntactic model that became central to the Brazilian grammatical tradition of the nineteenth century.
